Sandy's Review: Normally I like to include the Author's Original Description in my reviews, but since there are three books here I may be giving spoilers if I include them. I am opting to give you my review blind.
The 'This Man' Trilogy has completely consumed me. I know there is a stigma behind Twilight Fan Fiction and that is a place that I have lived for so many years now. I find that in the world of novels and original fiction, the authors don't appreciate being compared to FanFic. To the best of my knowledge The 'This Man' Trilogy is original fiction and not taken from the pages of FFN.
When I speak about Twilight Fan Fiction I am talking about my friends and some of the most talented authors on the planet. They are dedicated and professional and relentless to write stories that are compelling, entertaining and consuming. If I compare your story to TwiFanFic, I am not giving you an insult - I am giving you the highest compliment I can. And this story is the FIRST books I have read that give me the TwiFanFic feeling.
Jesse Ward is the owner of The Manor - a high end sex club. He commissions a young interior designer Ava O'Shea to decorate the new extension to his club. When Ava first goes to The Manor she is under the impression that it is a hotel, and Jesse does everything he can to make sure she continues upon that impression. As the story progresses you realize that Jesse commissioning Ava is no accident. He is completely infatuated with her and he turns up in the oddest places.
This Man is written from Ava's point of view and that is sometimes frustrating. I found by almost the end of the first book that I was ready to chuck it in. It seemed to me to just be copious sex with not much story. I was very angry with her for not ASKING QUESTIONS. Ava seems so oblivious to everything around her and I found this aggravating. So if you get to that point where you feel like you are confused, don't feel bad and DON'T QUIT.
In my opinion the 2nd book is better than the first and the 3rd is the best of the three. Simply because I finally get all my answers, I finally understand why.
These books have everything you could be looking for in entertainment: Murder, Sex, Mystery, Intrigue, Violence, Kinky Sex, Soft Sex, Lots and Lots of Sex, but also a sweet tender love story and several people that you would like to kill yourself. The secondary characters in these stories are well developed and I would not be surprised to see a spin off of a couple of the pairings.
Please be advised that they are written by an English author and you may see some euphemisms that you don't recognize. I did.
I don't want to give you the whole story - I want you to take the time to read them yourselves. Please know that I think you will be thanking me!!
If you read on your kindle, you can find them here: Amazon

I honestly didn't enjoy these books as much as I though I would. Partly because I think Ava was too naive. She let Jesse continue to push her and walk all over her. I found her character to be too weak and since the entire series are in her point of view, I spent half the time aggravated. I believe I still gave them 4 stars on Goodreads, but that is because the writing is good, the story has great potential, It was easy to follow and someone else may love it. It just didn't have that WOW factor to me. I wouldn't have let him get away with 1/3 of what she did.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ava being too naive!! And 2/3 into the first book I was so MAD at her until I realized it's her pov - not mine. I just didn't understand how she didn't ask questions. But eventually I fell in love with Jesse and now....well I love these books.
DeleteI just finished the first book & while I agree that Ava was too nieve & didn't ask enough questions, it was totally pointless her asking them anyway as she never got a straight answer to any of the one's she did ask!
ReplyDeleteI bought and read them solely on your rec. I enjoyed them as a whole. I thought the first book moved a little too fast in terms of the relationship. But like you, I recognized this was Ana and Jesse's story. By the end of book 3, I was ready to re-read!!!
